What will the next figure look like?

Let's call the top circle #1. Then moving in a clockwise manner, we have #2, #3, #4, etc. If you were to draw the next figure in the pattern, what would it look like?

There may be more than one solution. Just be sure to explain your reasoning.

I believe that only circle #3 would be shaded, because in the origional pattern, the shaded circle in position 5 moves counterclochwise two circles, while the shaded circle in position 1 moves counterclockwise only once, this patter continues untill the two land on the same position in figure 5

I believe that in the next figure of the pattern, cirles #1 and #5 will be shaded, because as shown, each of the odd figures has been this way, therefore I believe that the next odd figure will remain the same.

I think that circle three will be the only one shaded because the shaded area that started on circle five always moved counterclockwise two spaces each time. The other shaded area, circle one, moved counterclockwise one space every time.

I agree with Austin that #1 and #5 would be shaded because if you use another pattern say numbers it wuld look someting like this:
1,2,1,3...
so thus making it reasonable to say that the next figure would look like fig1 and fig3 and have the circles #1 and #5 shaded.

I think that circles #2 and #4 will be shaded becaese one of the circles is moving counterclockwise by 2 andthe other by one so the answer would be 2 and 4

i think that if you were to continue the process you would get only 1 circle shaded because of the fact that only one circle moves

ljkiyMr.Cox can you delete my last comment? I looked over the question and found out that only circle #3 would be shaded. Thanks! : )( :

I think #1 and #5 would be shaded, because every other pattern seemed to be 1 and 5 PARKER

Well, I tried this, I thought #1 and #5 would be shaded. Then I asked my mom and she agreed with what Alex said. Then when she explained it to me I understood the rotation of the shaded circles.
